How does the plant swap work
Have excess plants, seedlings or homegrown produce? Bring them along and share the abundance with your community at our Plant, Seedling & Produce Swap.
From 9am, you can drop off your items and theyâll be exchanged for tokens, which you can then use to âshopâ and swap for something new to take home from 10am to 2pm. Itâs a simple, fun way to share what you have, discover something different, and connect with others who love growing and gardening.
Whether youâre a seasoned gardener or just starting out, everyone is welcome. Come along, get involved, and be part of a community coming together to support each other and the planet.
Bring your friends, your whÄnau, and your love for the planet. We canât wait to see you there.
Recycling Station
Weâre excited to be hosting a Recycling Station at this yearâs Earth Day event, giving everyday items a second life and connecting them to meaningful causes.
Bring along your:
Used batteries
Wine bottle tops
Drink cans and tabs
Prescription glasses
Bras
Yarn
These items might seem small, but each one has a powerful next step.
Prescription glasses are collected by the Rotary Club of Havelock North, cleaned and sorted by volunteers, then sent to Eye Care for Africa to support vision care programmes across Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Kenya.
Bras are donated through Project Uplift, helping provide essential support and dignity to women across the Pacific.
Drink cans and tabs are passed on to Hastings Host Lions, raising funds for Kidney Kids and supporting families affected by kidney disease.
Used batteries are safely diverted from landfill, preventing harmful chemicals entering our environment and reducing fire risk.
Yarn is given to our network of local knitters, who transform it into warm, practical items for people in our community.
This is collaboration at its best, where organisations work together and play to their strengths to create real, life-changing impact. It is also a great example of the Re-Source hub model in action, receiving items from across the community and directing them to where they can do the most good for both people and the environment.
